At Reese Pyle Meyer PLL we understand that long-term care issues are a primary concern during the aging process.  Time after time we meet with clients who are faced with difficult decisions upon needing care in either a facility or in their home. We work with them to protect and preserve their assets in the event of a long-term care crisis.  Families needing elder law advice may be facing difficult interpersonal and emotional issues as well as financial and legal issues. We try to temper our legal advice with care and compassion.

If you or a loved one are concerned about the financial implications of nursing home care, then you may benefit from a conversation with one of our elder law attorneys, who can explain the rules governing Medicaid eligibility. Common planning practices include counseling concerning these issues and preparation of documents to implement effective strategies. Documents may include wills, trusts, financial powers of attorney, health care powers of attorney, living wills and deeds. We can also provide representation before the Department of Job and Family Services or in court if needed.

Special Needs Law

If your family has a loved one with special needs, you may face special responsibilities to help care for your family member.  We understand that there are particular estate planning challenges that require attention as you begin to plan to meet your loved one’s special needs, both now and in the future.  At Reese Pyle Meyer PLL we want families to be able to create a holistic Special Needs Plan that can be used to effectively coordinate your loved one’s care needs and enhance their quality of life.

Our focus will be to maximize the amount of resources available to the individual with disabilities while exploring estate planning options, including establishing a special needs trust.  It is important for families to understand that should an individual on public benefits, either Social Security or Medicaid, receive money from a deceased loved one’s estate, they could lose those benefits.  The planning that we assist clients with would preserve those benefits and allow other families to leave an inheritance for their loved one with special needs.
