Who We Are

Reese Pyle Meyer PLL is the largest and oldest law firm in Licking County, with a long tradition of commitment and service to our community.  Our attorneys enjoy the highest professional reputations and bring outstanding levels of expertise and experience to the resolution of our client’s legal questions and concerns.

We value the long-term relationships we have with many of our clients, including prominent local businesses, institutions, foundations, nonprofit organizations, and, of course, individuals, many of whom we count among our closest friends and neighbors.

We live by the following principles:

  • Follow the Golden Rule. We treat our clients as we would expect to be treated, devoting our best efforts to solving their legal problems and providing sound and objective legal advice and counsel.
  • Communicate Effectively. We are accessible to our clients and communicate closely with them so that they are completely informed of the progress of all legal matters we are handling for them.
  • Provide Value. We understand our clients’ concern for the cost of legal services, and we pride ourselves on providing exceptional value to our clients by being cost-effective, putting forth the appropriate level of effort necessary to accomplish the desired result, and communicating clearly and frankly about our charges.
  • Solve Problems. We understand that lawyers should be problem solvers, not just problem spotters.  We realize that our clients depend on us to recognize and implement the best solutions to their legal problems.  We provide forthright advice to our clients about the advantages and disadvantages of their position, and we work hard to find workable resolutions to their problems.

Firm History

Reese Pyle Meyer PLL traces its origins to the law firm of Flory & Flory, which was formed in Newark in the late 19th Century by Jesse Flory. Some years later he was joined by his sons, Walter and Charles Flory.  The Flory family developed a strong reputation in the legal profession, both in Newark and elsewhere in Ohio. Walter Flory eventually relocated to Cleveland, Ohio and, with others, established the law firm Thompson, Hine & Flory. In the ensuing years the Newark practice continued, prospered and evolved. In 1952, J. Gilbert Reese joined the practice, then known as Flory, Flory & Fitzgibbon, as an associate attorney. He was the driving force in the modern growth and development of the firm and is one of the small number of graduates to be honored by The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law as Distinguished Alumnus. In 2002, the J. Gilbert Reese Chair in Contract Law was established in his name at the Moritz College of Law.

Today, Reese Pyle Meyer is the largest law firm in Licking County.  Our attorneys include graduates of The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, Capital University Law School, Case Western Reserve School of Law, Indiana University Maurer School of Law, the Ohio Northern Claude W. Pettit College of Law, and the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law.
